The closest place to stay to the site

Les Coultades de l'Escoufle are in Valon, a hamlet of Lacroix-Barrez, on the slope that faces the Montézic power station. Between the village and the plant there is only the Truyère river: 600 metres as the crow flies, about ten minutes by car over the Phalip bridge. You will not find accommodation closer to the site.

In the morning you leave without crossing the whole plateau. In the evening you are back in ten minutes, and from Valon you look out over the gorges, the Couesques reservoir and the Montézic plateau. To us, it is the finest view in the valley.

The Montézic II project in brief

Montézic II is the second underground plant that EDF wants to dig next to the first one, at the Montézic pumped-storage station: two pump-turbines of about 230 MW each, adding 460 MW to the current 920 MW.

Exploratory works started in June 2026 for about two years, carried out by the consortium led by NGE Génie civil: a 727-metre access tunnel and two exploratory galleries, with drilling and tests. The main works are expected around 2028, with commissioning around 2035.
